Leprosy patients, during 80’s and 90’s leprosy patients located at Hombolo village were receiving free leprosy treatment from nearby Hospital called Nunge but recently years the Hospital no longer provides free services and the patients supposed to cover their medical expenses rather than travelling more than 45 Kms looking for the free treatment which cost them transport fair plus the pocket money which is something they never had, frankly people from this community are very poor and most can not even afford one meal per day, so the question is if they can’t afford even one meal per day how can they afford the treatment?, so as part of the programme the project’s main target should be this group.
Ex-leprosy patients, these people are of most difficult time ever because they are disabled and vulnerable as a result of leprosy, people stigmatize, segregate, abandon and neglect them, they live with fear covering their lives, they lost hope because no one ever cared about them, and they live in a very poor state of poverty, clean water, health services, good housing condition is far worse than their daily nightmare.
Leprosy and ex-leprosy patients families, If parents are poor, live with no hope, abandoned, stigmatized and segregated within the society because of the Leprosy then the whole family whether is infected with the disease or not will face the same humiliation like their elders, so the families of the same victims are also the main targets of the project as the free healthy service policy established, clean and safe water allocated, better housing conditions and renovation of their old houses, food policy as well as establishing a farming and fishing programme owned by the leprosy community through the Liwile foundation.
